Select Text in a Table

Tab - To select the next cell of the table.
 Shift + Tab - To select the previous cells of the table.
Shift + Alt + Page Down - To select the entire column from the upper cell.
Shift + Alt + Page Up - To select the whole column from the bottom cell.
 Alt + 5 on the numeric keypad (with Num Lock off) - To select the table.

Apply Paragraph Formatting

Ctrl + 1- to set single line spacing.
Ctrl + 2 - To set double line spacing.
Ctrl + 5 - for setting one and a half line spacing.
Ctrl + 0 - In 2 paragraphs to give one line space.
Ctrl + E- sets a paragraph in the middle.

Ctrl + J- To give a paragraph a justified alignment.
 Ctrl + R- Right alignment of a paragraph.
Ctrl + L- Left alignment for a paragraph.
Ctrl + M- To give indents from the left side
Ctrl + Shift + M- To exclude paragraph indents from the left.
Ctrl + T- Hanging for giving indent.
 Ctrl + Shift + T- To reduce hanging indent.
Ctrl + Q- To remove paragraph formatting.

Perform a Mail Merge

Alt + shift + K-Mail to display the merge.
Alt + Shift + N-For the document to be merged.
Alt + Shift + M- To print the merged document.
Alt + Shift + E-mail to edit the merged data document.
Alt + shift + F- To insert a merging field.

Find, Replace and Browse through text

Ctrl + F - To search for a word.
Alt + Ctrl + Y - to search another word (after a search replacement)
Ctrl + H - Show the Replace dialog box.
Ctrl + G - To show the Go-to-Dial Box.
Alt + Ctrl + Z - Displays the last four places you've corrected.
Ctrl + PageUp - To move to the previous correction point.

Ctrl + PageDown - to move to the next correction point.


Insert Special Characters

Ctrl + F9 - Insert a blank field.
Shift + Enter - To start a new line in a paragraph.
Ctrl + Enter - Insert the page break.
 Ctrl + shift + Enter- to insert column breaks.
Alt + Ctrl + Minus Sign - To insert an em dash.
Ctrl + Minus Sign - To insert an en dash.
Ctrl + Hyphen - To insert an optional hyphen.

Ctrl + Shift + Hyphen - for non-breaking  hypen inserts.

Alt + Ctrl + C - To insert a copyright symbol.

 Alt + Ctrl + Full Stop - for inserting the ellipses.

Select Text and Graphic

Shift + Right Arrow - To select a letter from the right.
Shift + Left Arrow - To select a letter from the left side.
Ctrl + Shift + RightArrow - To select the end of the word.
Ctrl + Shift + Left Arrow - To select the beginning of the word.
Shift + End - to select the end of the line.
Shift + Home - to select at the beginning of the line.
Shift + Down Arrow - To select a line below.

Shift + Up Arrow - To select a line above and above.
Ctrl + Shift + Down Arrow - To select the end of the paragraph.
Ctrl + Shift + Up Arrow - To select the beginning of the paragraph.
Shift + Page Down - To select the screen next to the screen below.
Shift + Page Up - To select the screen on the previous screen.
Ctrl + Shift + Home - To get to the beginning of a document.

  • No Mac version.
  • Tools are hard to learn for newbies.
  • Navigation is not easy.
  • Navigation board is not visible.
  • The freehand brush is hard to use.

Adobe Indesign


Advantages

  • The combining of text and graphics becomes easy.
  • The learning curve is very low, ideal for newbies.
  • The features that come with InDesign are unbelievable.

Disadvantages

  • Limited tools for creating graphics.
  • The graphics tools are not as powerful.
  • The adjustment of photos is limited as this is not a photo-editing software.
